Mama Shelter: The New Urban Hotel
Mama Shelter is Fun, Wacky, Cool and Affordable
Mama Shelter is a stunning hotel by Philippe Starck with prices that one would expect to find in a hostel. Mama Shelter is smart, clever, and brash. Graffiti covers the ceiling of Mama Shelter’s bar, while an enormous, glass-topped communal table has continuous news feeds on horizontal screens. Staff use chinagraph pencils to write messages on huge mirrors. The two lifts have trivia as decoration – one in French, the other English.
Mama Shelter is located in the bustling Saint Blaise district, opposite the trendy Flèche d’Or music venue and with plenty of fashionable boutiques nearby. You can dine in the restaurant serving traditional French cuisine or sample delicious brasserie-style dishes on the outdoor terrace. The hotel’s laid-back Chic-Chic bar offers a range of cocktails. You can enjoy a game of table football in the Mama Shelter’s amusement area. Have fun with the large screens allowing you to put up live messages and upload pictures. Paris’s main attractions, including the famous Louvre and the Eiffel Tower, are all easily accessible thanks to the numerous Metro stops surrounding the Mama Shelter.
Mama Shelter is simple and modern, with iMac televisions and luxurious sheets. Kitchenettes, with a microwave and mini bar make room service feel a distinctly outdated concept. Bathrooms are compact and stocked with Kiehl toiletries. Most of the fun is to be had in the urban playground downstairs.
Mama Shelter is a former garage. Mama Shelter offers designer doubles above a buzzing cocktail bar and restaurant from just €79 a night.
