Philippe Starck has really outdone himself with his latest hotel masterpiece: The Hotel Palazzina Grassi. Set in Venice, Italy, this hotel is absolutely gorgeous, and is a very welcome addition to Venice. Starck has taken the mystery of Venice and translated it into this hotel, making mystery its overarching theme. You will notice eye masks featured in the design throughout the hotel, and a lot of glass and mirrors to add to the mysterious allure that Starck is obviously seeking to achieve with this Venice hotel. Such as the one at the front entrance of the Bazaar in Beverly Hills (part of the SLS Hotel) modeled by my boyfriend. The Leda Armchair is frankly magnificent. This is of course reflected in the price, -a whopping $29,863! However, if you are a millionaire, I definitely think this chair is worth the steep price. The Gun lamp collection designed by Philippe Starck for Flos in 2005 was created by Starck as a response to the society that we live in today. Starck is a firm believer of love and peace and so in the gun collection Starck uses his position as a designer to get his political view across.

Why doesn’t furniture show that everything is a political choice? I am a designer and design is my only weapon, so I use it to speak about what I think is important.

He goes on to highlight what our society has come to.

Nowadays we kill – religiously, militarily, civilly,
indeed very civilly sometimes. We kill out of ambition,
out of greed, for the fun of it or of the show.
Republics turn bananas. Tyrant are our masters,
Designed, manufactured, sold, dreamed, purchased

The Guns Collection is nothing but a sign
of the times.

The gold and silver of the weapons represents the collision between money and war. The Table Gun symbolizes the East, the Bed Side Gun symbolizes Europe, the Lounge Gun stands for the West. The black shade signifies death. The crosses on the inside are to remind us of our dead ones. Freaky stuff!! But cool! One thing’s for sure, these gun lamps are iconic. They are sexy pieces of art. Kong restaurant bar is on the top two floors of the prestigious Louis Vuitton building – 1 Rue du Pont Neuf. The Kong restaurant is an elevators ride up, above the Kenzo flagship stores. The top floor of Kong has a glass ceiling that looks out over the city, designed by Architect Jean-Jacquey, and the interior is designed by Phillipe Starck. The restaurant calls the design “a collision of modern and ancient Japan”.

Ultra hip, the chairs are the Invisible Louis XIV Armchairs, with eerie asian faces screen printed on the backs, also known as Kong chairs. The walls are covered in plasma screens with faces that wink at passing by customers. The view of the Siene and the city below is breathtaking, and the food by Chef Richard Pommies is delicious. The quirky cartoon design is unique and original. The Japanese products on display are cute and give the place a fun playful touch. The Pokemon cusions and the Hello Kitty toys are very charming. Kong is a must see, but call ahead for reservations as it’s a hot spot! Kong restaurant is a visual and culinary delight. A complete treat for the senses!

Now this Stark Starckore watch, I really dislike. I find the colors are way too strong and are actually repelling! The green is a hideous color that reminds me of green slime and the brown strap is a pretty ugly brown. I would go for the first watch… what do you think?

These dual time watches by Philippe Starck for fossil are pretty cool. I am not quite sure what the dual time actually signifies… maybe that time is inconsequential…. because it could be one of two, or many, depending where you are. I’m not quite sure what the philosophy is behind the idea, but I still think that these watches are really cool! I like the white dual time and the black and amber. I find the red a bit disturbing. Not sure why! What do you think?
